The 2025 Annual Report highlights the progress Bridge Pa School has made in strengthening teaching, supporting student wellbeing, and improving learning outcomes for our tamariki

Strengthening Teaching and Learning

A key focus for the year was growing the capability of our kaiako (teachers). Staff participated in professional development in areas such as structured literacy, culturally responsive teaching, and assessment data literacy.

These initiatives helped teachers strengthen their planning and teaching practices, leading to improved student engagement, increased confidence in learning, and positive progress across the curriculum.

Student Progress and Achievement

Most students are making expected progress in their learning areas. The introduction of a structured literacy programme in the junior school has had a strong positive impact, with younger students showing improved confidence and achievement in reading and writing.

The school has also identified opportunities to extend structured literacy approaches into senior classes to support continued literacy growth.

Teachers are now using assessment data more effectively to monitor progress and respond to the individual learning needs of students.

Student Wellbeing and Engagement

Bridge Pa School continues to place a strong focus on student wellbeing. The Te Whare Tapa Whā framework is used across the school to support the wellbeing of tamariki.

This approach has contributed to improved student engagement, stronger relationships within the school community, and better attendance.

Honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi

The school remains committed to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi by strengthening partnerships with whānau and integrating Māori perspectives throughout learning.

This includes:

  • Incorporating local histories and pūrākau into the curriculum

  • Increasing the use of te reo Māori across the school environment

  • Working closely with whānau and community through consultation and hui

These efforts help ensure that all learners, particularly Māori students, feel valued and supported in their learning.

Sport and Participation

Funding from KiwiSport has supported increased student participation in organised sport. The school has used this funding to reduce barriers by:

  • Subsidising sports fees

  • Purchasing equipment

  • Providing transport to sporting events

  • Expanding coaching and sports programmes

These initiatives have helped more students take part in sport and develop confidence, teamwork, and physical skills.

Looking Ahead

Bridge Pa School will continue to focus on:

  • Strengthening literacy across all year levels

  • Supporting student wellbeing and engagement

  • Building strong partnerships with whānau and the community

  • Ensuring high-quality teaching and leadership to support student success
